As a federal enterprise, the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development.

In a historic step, the areas formerly known as federally administered tribal areas (FATA) were merged into the province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in May 2018. This merger will fundamentally alter the lives of 5 million citizens in the tribal areas and bring about long-awaited change in a region marked by decades of marginalization and instability. For the first time, citizens in the newly Merged Areas will elect their representatives for local governments which were established in 2020. 

The FATA Development Programme is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-financed by the European Union (EU). The Programme assists the Pakistani partner to improve service provision to the population in the newly Merged Areas in the main result areas local governance, sector governance (basic education, health services) as well as constructive dialogue between the population and governmental actors

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing project activities related to Merged Areas education sector and the Accelerated Implementation Plan (AIP) and all related areas that form part of the programme objectives
  • Providing professional advisory services to partners and assisting project/programme initiatives of the Education Sector Plan and District Education Plans to cooperate with a broad range of stakeholders (implementers, target groups, etc.)
  • Liaising with all relevant stakeholders in the sector in the Merged Areas and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Masters’ degree holder in education, public policy, IT, and social and management sciences or equivalent
  • At least 5 years practical experience in a comparable position (public policy and development/preferably education sector)
  • Understanding of needs of the education sector in the Merged Areas and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
